Kathy Moser Kerrville Folk Festival 2007
“I think the whole world would breathe a big sigh of relief if we knew we weren't destroying the future. It is this vision of a joyful future that I believe artists need to hold up. The world is changed by vision, not by programs...My own choice is to motivate through joy and enthusiasm. I learned this from natural builders, who are some of the most deeply and widely educated, intelligent and joyful people I've gotten to be around. They are building the world they want to live in, rather than fighting against things...”
Proceeds from singer-songwriter-activist Kathy Moser’s song Straw, Clay, Wood & Stone sponsor teenagers in the Teen Natural Building Scholarship Program.
“The bird builds its nest high up in a tree It’s beautiful, simple and strong The bird builds a nest that fits right in Like the harmony part to a song. I want a home like that, simple and true I want a home like that for me and you. So let it shine on everyone, we’ll build our homes from the earth and let them face the sun let it shine, everybody come on home we’ll build from straw, clay, wood and stone...”
“Learn... to live sustainably without fear. An environmentally conscious life yields such a higher quality of life that it is worth living in its own right, not to mention an excellent survival strategy.
“I think there is a general anxiety that we try to cover up with busyness and material consumption. At some deep level we know we are not living sustainably.
“If fear and anger changed things we'd be done already, but they don't, they just create more of themselves. I think it's important to keep emphasizing the practical and economic value of peace and environmental sustainability. This way we can keep finding common ground with diverse groups of people.
“I use my performances to talk about and educate people about natural building and also this year to raise money for the Teen Natural Building Scholarship Program.”
